Bicarbonate of Soda

Bicarbonate of Soda
Who knew Bicarb would have so many uses.
  • Kitchen Scrub – Sprinkle bicarbonate of soda on the surfaces in your kitchen and use a sponge or rag to scrub. Use a few drops of Spar Lemon Juice to add a fresh fragrance.
  • Pots and Pans Cleaner – Bicarb can be used to handwash pots and pans that have stubborn cooking stains. Just let them soak in a sink of hot water with a few spoonfuls of bicarb for 15-20 minutes.
  • Carpet Freshener – Sprinkle bicarbonate of soda on your carpets; let it sit for 15-20 minutes, and then vacuum.
  • Fruit and Veggie Scrub – Make your own natural scrub by adding a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda to water. The pasty mixture is a perfect way to remove bacteria from your fruits and veggies.
  • Silverware Cleaner – Create a paste that is three parts bicarbonate of soda and one part water. Rub the paste onto your silverware. Allow to stand for 15-20 minutes, rinse the silverware.
  • Microwave Cleaner – Don’t use harmful chemicals to clean your microwave; instead, just add a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda to a damp rag. This combination will wipe away food and grease easily.
  • Enviro Friendly Drain Cleaner – Mix bicarbonate of soda with SPAR Vinegar to create your own drain cleaner. Let the combination bubble for 15 minutes, then rinse it with hot water.
  • Dishwasher Helper – Add bicarbonate of soda to your regular dishwashing cycle; this will help eliminate unwanted grease and grime that builds up on your dishes.
  • Fire Extinguisher – If you experience a minor grease fire in your kitchen, you can use bicarbonate of soda to put it out. Pour bicarb on the fire and it will stifle the flames instantly. This works especially well in an oven where you cannot use water.
  • Coffee and Tea Pot Cleaner – To remove coffee and tea stains, make this quick mixture: ¼ cup bicarbonate of soda and 1 litre of warm water. Rub the mixture on and in your pots; if you are battling with tough stains, let it sit for a few hours first and then rinse.
  • Cupboard and Fridge Freshener – To keep your cupboard smelling clean and fresh, place a box or cup of bicarbonate of soda inside.
